8th Dancer Contest Official Rules

CONTRIBUTING FUNDS TO THE MOVERS & SHAKERS GALA DOES NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING THIS CONTEST. OPEN TO LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE STATE OF WISCONSIN WHO ARE 21 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER.

Official Rules

  • In order to compete for the 8th Movers & Shakers Gala Dancer opening, submit a video of yourself showing your personality, why you should be the 8th Movers & Shakers Gala dancer and your willingness to raise vote money for Lakeland University and the 501(c)3 charitable organization the participant has selected.
  • The video does not need to include a dancing demonstration; dancers are selected on ability to engage with an audience and the willingness to raise funds for the event through vote sales.
  • Video must be a minimum of 2 minutes and not longer than 5 minutes.
  • The video does not need to be professionally created.
  • Videos can be uploaded to YouTube anytime between midnight, Jan. 2, 2017 and 11:59 p.m. Jan. 30, 2017.
  • No copyright music should appear in the video, as YouTube may remove the video and thus the video will no longer be eligible to be part of the voting competition.
  • All videos will be posted online for online voting between noon, Feb. 3, 2017 through noon, Friday, Feb. 10, 2017.
  • Selection of the 8th dancer will be based on votes received as of noon, Friday, Feb 10, 2017 and the score from the Gala Committee. Vote totals and Gala score will each be 50% of the total score for selection.
  • All videos will be reviewed by the event planner. Videos may not include vulgarity, elicit actions, indecency or music and must be suitable for public viewing and aligned with the values of Lakeland University and the Movers & Shakers Gala. The entry must not contain material that violates or infringes another's rights, including but not limited to privacy, publicity, copyright, trademark, patent, intellectual property-related rights or property-related rights. If a video is not appropriate, the Gala event planner will contact applicant and inform her/him that the video does not meet contest rules.
  • Gala Committee members or family of Gala Committee members are not eligible to apply. Nor may any former Movers & Shakers Gala celebrity dancers. Nor may employees and members of their households and immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, children and each of their respective spouses).
  • Limit one video entry per person.
  • Contestant must submit full name as it should appear on publicity, email address, mailing address, cell phone number, waiver and the name of a 501(c)(3) charity which aligns with the mission and values of Lakeland University.
  • By participating, all entrants acknowledge and agree that they have entered the contest of their own free will, that the full rules and details of the contest have been made available to them in writing and that they understand and agree that neither Lakeland University, Lakeland University Foundation, their agents, affiliates, sponsors, representatives or employees have any liability with respect to any damages out of acceptance and use of a prize. By entering this promotion, participants agree to be bound by these rules.
  • The contest must have a minimum of five entries by the submission deadline date of 11:59 p.m., Jan. 30, 2017. If there are not five entries, the contest will conclude and an 8th dancer will not be selected.

Benefits

  • There is no cost to the 8th dancer contestant to enter the contest or to perform at the Gala.
  • The dancer is paired with a professional dancer. The Gala Committee will secure a professional dancer based on 8th dancer contest winner's travel and rehearsal requirements and the dance style selected.
  • The professional dance lessons include 10 90-minute lessons with the professional partner. The 8th dancer contest winner may purchase additional lessons, at his/her own expense, but it is not necessary.
  • The contest winner will select a 501(c)(3) charity to receive the $10,000 award, if the 8th dancer is named The Movers & Shakers Gala Champion at the event on May 20, 2017.
  • There will be an overall winner, The Movers & Shakers Gala Champion, based on a percentage of the number of votes sold before and during the event for the dancer and a percent of the professional judges' score. This winner's designated charity will receive $10,000. In addition, there will be a second trophy given based solely on the decision by the professional judges as to who was the best technical dancer.
  • Winning the 8th dancing spot does not net the winner any tickets to the Gala. You may be eligible for complimentary tickets or tables based on the amount of vote money raised or by purchasing tickets.

Eligibility

  • The contestant must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Winner must be available for the dress rehearsal date, Friday, May 19, 2017 (time yet to be determined).
  • Winner must be available for the event date Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 5:30 - 10:30 p.m.

If the dancer raises $6,000 in vote revenue, the dancer receives a front row table for 10 guests. Dancers are encouraged to raise as much vote revenue as possible, as votes determine the Movers & Shakers Gala Champion and that dancer's charity receiving $10,000.
