Volunteer for the 2014 Movers and Shakers Gala

The Movers & Shakers Gala at Lakeland College is such a stunning night of marvelous dancing, toe-tapping music and significant fundraising and is planned for Saturday, May 17, 2014.

The event features well-known area "celebrities" in a setting complete with red-carpet glitz, glamour and gourmet cuisine. Lakeland's Todd Wehr Center is transformed into a beautiful ballroom with professional sound and lighting production and impressive video screens.

The Movers & Shakers Gala is a benefit co-sponsored by Lakeland College and the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra (SSO); proceeds from the event are shared between the two nonprofit organizations. The inaugural Movers & Shakers Gala was held in 2008 with a sold out audience who attended this spectacular evening. In five years, the event has raised over $1,400,000 for the two organizations and more than 30 local charities selected by the "celebrity" dancers. Revenue from the event is generated through ticket sales, sponsorships, auction, raffle and vote sales.

The 2014 Movers & Shakers Gala is going to continue to make a positive impact on our community. Please join us in supporting the vibrant Lakeland College and Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra by volunteering at the event.

Below is a summary of the volunteer opportunities available. We would prefer volunteers sign-up on line at moversandshakersgala.org. If you are unable to do so or you have questions, please contact Gala Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@sheboygansymphony.org.

Task: Vote Sales
  • Mingle throughout your 5 assigned tables selling votes in support of the celebrity dancers.
  • Collect the votes during the course of the evening and deliver to the athletic office. The final call for all vote sales will be 10 minutes after the final dancer and this will be announced by the emcee. We plan for that to occur around 10 p.m.
  • Each guest receives a complimentary vote. Please be sure to pick-up those votes sometime during the course of the evening. You may have to remind the guests to complete their comp ballot!
  • Votes are $20 each. This year, fifty percent of the proceeds raised through the purchase of votes will go to a local charity or organization designated by each dancer.
Task: Raffle Sales
  • Mingle throughout your 5 assigned tables selling raffle tickets to guests.
  • The prize is to cast 250 Votes for your Favorite Dancer. The drawing will occur immediately after the last dancer. That is equivalent to $5,000 worth of votes.
  • Tickets are $20 each.
  • Give one half of the ticket to the guest and keep the other half of the ticket. You must be responsible for giving your sold half to the Gala Bank. There is a glass container in which all the sold stubs must be placed BEFORE the last dancer.
Task: Live Auction Spotters
  • Stand between the tables you are spotting and encourage the guests at the tables to bid on live auction items.
  • When a guest at your table is bidding, raise your hand high to get the attention of the auctioneer and on-stage spotters. If the auctioneer is not recognizing you, verbalize you have a bid.
  • Each spotter will have a bidder sheet for each live auction item. If someone in your area is the winning bidder, please write down the winning bid and have the winner sign or initial the bidder sheet.
