The Movers & Shakers Gala - Dancers

Nellie Schmitt

Nellie was born in the Netherlands and moved to the United States with her family when she was three. She grew up in Waukesha and attended UW LaCrosse. Her career in massage therapy eventually brought her to Sheboygan where she married Steven Schmitt in 1986. They are the proud parents of 20-year-old twin daughters. Since she and Steve are now empty nesters, Nellie has returned to work as a massage therapist. Nellie’s community involvement is wide-ranging including six years with the Sheboygan Service Club. Nellie’s not new to performing. She has performed in community plays, perhaps the most memorable of which was her role as Patsy Cline in “Always. . .Patsy Cline”. She also performed several songs from this play at a Sheboygan Symphony Pops Concert. Recently, she joined the local rock group "Identity Crisis.”

As a child, Nellie and her family watched The Lawrence Welk Show on Saturday nights. This is when her love of dance and performing began. First learning the steps by dancing on her father's feet, then on her tip-toes pretending to wear high heels, she is thrilled by the opportunity to put on her heels and dance for this wonderful event benefiting the Sheboygan Symphony and Lakeland College.
