Julie Steinert
Two of Julie's great passions in life are dancing and fundraising for nonprofit organizations. No wonder she's so excited about this year's Gala.
"I'm doing this for the love of dance and for the love of community," she says. "When you have great passion for something, there's just nothing like it. This is such a fabulous event."
As a child, Julie fell in love with tap and ballet, and was really serious about dancing for seven years. But going into high school, her dynamic athletic ability was bubbling to the surface and she knew she had a big decision to make.
"I chose to be an athlete and give up dancing," she says. "I knew I couldn't do both at a high level."
She eventually became a sprinter for Marquette University, earning a scholarship as a walk-on. Unfortunately, injuries to her feet cut her collegiate athletic career short.
Julie married her husband, Peter, who she met on their high school cross country team in Oshkosh, six days after she graduated from college. They've been married 25 years and have two sons, Ben, 20, and Christian, 18 and an eight-year-old lab named Gracie.
"It's a great love story, to be honest," says Julie, beaming.
These days, Julie focuses on her core values of "faith, family, friendship and laughter." A passionate, talented fundraiser, she has worked for numerous organizations over two decades.
Though she's no longer a competitive runner, she loves the fact that son Christian enjoys cross country and track at Sheboygan Area Lutheran High School. Ben, now a sophomore at UW-Madison, also enjoyed running in high school.
"It's unbelievably rewarding," Julie says. "It's a dream come true to see your children do something you love so much and have success in a tough sport. I'm so proud."
